According to Medicare 10% of all Medicare funds are lost to fraud. Every dollar lost to Medicare fraud is one less dollar available to our elderly or disadvantaged citizens needing health care.

WHAT IS MEDICARE FRAUD
Medicare fraud is knowingly billing Medicare for products and services that were not medically necessary, accurately coded, or for the actual beneficiary. It can also be a person trying to scam you or your loved one by stealing your Medicare number or personal information with the intent of illegal activity.
WHAT CAN YOU DO TO PROTECT YOUR PRIVACY
Protect yourself from this situation by guarding your Medicare card like a credit card. Never give your Medicare Number to anyone unless you know they should have it.
Never give or lend your Medicare card to anyone except your medical provider.
Pay close attention to payment notices from Medicare or your insurance company for mistakes in coding or services. Mistakes can be made by doctors and health care providers and if something doesn't look right, immediately contact your doctor and inquire. They will either fix it or explain the situation.
WHEN IS IT SAFE TO GIVE OUT YOUR MEDICARE INFORMATION
Medicare and Medicare Representatives will only ask for personal information if you are already a member of a health or drug plan.
The agent who helped you join and/or you have given permission to can assist in your needs.
A customer service representative from 1-800-MEDICARE can call you if you have left a message or a representative you spoke with said they will call you back.
Doctors and insurers acting on your behalf.
Trusted individuals in your community who work with Medicare.
It is important to note that Medicare or someone representing Medicare will NEVER contact you for your Medicare Number or other personal information unless you have given them permission to do so.
REPORT MEDICARE FRAUD AND ABUSE
