SQUASH DRAMA

Writer: Michael MeyersMichael Meyers

"All you can change is yourself, but sometimes that changes everything!"

- Gary W. Goldstein

Stop your mental drama now. At one time or another, we are all guilty of working up situations in our heads before they actually happen or misinterpreting other's actions adding unnecessary DRAMA to life. We have come up with 5 steps to assist in your mental detox.

Step 1

REALIZE THE PROBLEM so that you may stop projecting a motive on others. Don't imagine reasons for others. If your spouse says there isn't any food in the house, it's not because you are a bad grocery shopper. Maybe, they are craving something particular. If the lady at the grocery store is staring at you, maybe it's because she is thinking about her sick puppy. Not thinking anything about you, you are just in her line of vision.

Step 2

REMIND YOURSELF that other people's intentions are good and stop being paranoid that they are out to get you. Just because they are frowning it doesn't mean it's about you. It could be a bad day or the sun is in their eyes. Don't create the stories in other people's heads, you don't know what they are thinking.

Step 3

NO REGRETS- keep your emotions in check and don't fill yourself with guilt just because you say no to helping someone or being somewhere. Remind yourself that you had to decline because (insert reason here) and stand behind your decision.

Step 4

NO WHAT IF's- do what you do or don't do it, but don't obsess about what could have been. You didn't order the chicken, you ordered the fish. Enjoy it. You didn't volunteer for the town auction, don't stress about it. Worrying about things you can't change is a waste of time.

Step 5

AWKWARD HAPPENS - so something awkward occurred, you can't change it, so accept it & move on. Don't bother yourself with mistakes, everyone makes them.

Now that you have the tools to stop the drama in your life, you may need a new tv show for your daily dose!
